We have a Garmin plotter with Blue Chart Vision charts, works great. Now we've cruised further a field and have bought new charts twice and now intended on sailing further this summer. I'll most probably use the iPad for the areas when we're off the plotter charts temporally, but my question is simple. Will my anchor alarm still work even if I don't have that particular chart..? Surely the GPS signal would still work so I'm hoping someone out there has more info on this matter....
Thanks

Far better to use an anchor app on your iPad it draws less amps and you can have it on your pillow, there are several great anchor apps available for iPhone or iPad also I think are also available for Android

Used my son's Anchor app on his iphone for 3 years - really worked well and saved a lot of juice in running the instrument and GPS overnight
Last week I put "BoaT Sentry" onto my own iphone - free app and I picked it because it allows me to put alarms at different radii in different sectors - so it will go off quicker if dragging towards a hazard.
