Hello All

I am going to the Southampton Boatshow on Monday travelling down on Sunday and staying overnight. Where would be the best place to launch (Slipway) my little 3.4 m rib if I wanted to have alittle pootle about on the water near the show. Also are there some restricted areas because of the show ?

Isn't there a good slipway beneath the Itchen Bridge on the Southampton side? Not sure about parking for car and trailer though.

I had a look there once, not sure your car and trailer would still be there when you returned, there was very limited parking, think Hythe would be safer.

If anything like last year there will be marshals in ribs that will not allow you to come too close 50m (or land) but their biggest problem are boats carrying advertising banners (who have not paid the organisers anything). But to sight see no problem with being 50m off, I did it a couple of times last year to show guests onboard.

Oh the irony.

Can I visit the boat show by boat.

No!

And they wonder why attendance is falling ( OK a little harsh).

Sure this years show will be transformational.

As you come in you wont see all the little boats, and then before the bridge there wont be a car dealer or load of food stalls and someone selling giant beanbags, then over the bridge will be different. No messing about they will let you use whichever bridge to get onto and off the pontoons. Princess wont be at the top of the second bridge and sun seeker wont be on the far right.

I will all be different and a voyage of discovery.

Or it will be a total photocopy of the last years and they will still wonder why attendance is falling ....

Here is the strret view of the site under the Itchen bridge thinks it the old woolston ferry ramp https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Floating+Bridge+Rd,+Southampton+SO14+3FL/@50.8999853,-1.3877414,3a,60y,48.45h,66.09t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1slf2rQ0PPVygF4najzvqUbw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!4m5!3m4!1s0x487471364a1092f7:0xc5e19052fd702444!8m2!3d50.8985482!4d-1.3885998 but note sure of the saftey of it

That's the one I looked at, you can even see all the debris on the Google street view.

Do the marshals actually have the right to keep you away. If it is a water way etc. Or can you just give them the time honoured 2 finger salute

Yes there are many reasons [including security] they don't want Joe public getting in the way causing them unnecessary work.
Safety wise not advisable to take such a small boat around Dockhead you would probably get swamped.

Err, actually you can if you book into Ocean Village, no space left now though I'm told.

I'm a bertholder at OV and I've just emailed Debbie, the marina manager, to say I'll be away from this Saturday until the 1st October, so there will be one free space on H pontoon.

It would appear that it is just a request about the 50 m so in my view a very weak power, if a power at all. I wonder if the guys in the Marshals boats will be true to what the notice says
