So today I had ago at sorting out the mess of wires I have made whilst running cables for various light fittings etc around the boat. everything is labled as to what is what the whole lot just looks untidy. Not sure what I did but after completing the job tho tbh still looks messy. I switched the battery swith to 1&2 and there was a whole lot of smoke. Apparently the thick Brown wires (shows how much I know) one running from the engine and one from the battery switch which I connected to the bus bar had melted and produced said smoke.

So given that I clearly dont know enough to ensure the whole system is working properly and safely can anyone suggest a Marine Electrician or someone who just knows this stuff inside out that would like free beverages thoughout the day and and dinner out in the evening

Boat is a Westerly Longbow 31 based in Gillingham Kent.

:D:encouragement:

Thanks, Jumble.

The good old boy who introduced me to the "smoke" concept was a big fan of Triumph motorcycles. Big Triumph logo on the front of his T-shirt; schematic of the ubiquitous Lucas three-position switch on the back, helpfully annotated:
off...flicker...dim.

Those were the days, although when darkness fell we never really got to see them.

I doubt you'll find a marine electrician who'll spend a day working on your boat for a the remuneration you offer.

Sometimes rendered as off-smoulder-smoke.

A. Because Lucas make refrigerators.

He wrote "a Marine Electrician or someone who just knows this stuff inside out that would like free beverages thoughout the day and and dinner out in the evening" which I read as "a Marine Electrician" ... or ... "someone who just knows this stuff inside out that would like free beverages thoughout the day and and dinner out in the evening."
