Following a disagreement at Southern Motorboats, resulting in my no longer being in their employ, please delete me from the forum, and all of my posts.

It looks like trying to help out here, a couple of posts in particular weren't such a good idea.

We live and learn, but please delete me, i'll re-register as a normal joe /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If it's posts on here that are causing problems then surely a discrete PM to Admin rather than a post might have been the way forward? We can't delete you... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Is the management the same there as it has been for a lot of years??

Seems a bit harsh if you have been canned because you have posted on here. I haven't seen anything in your posts that SM would be unhappy about.

That said, companies do get a bit wary of unchecked postings from employees directly relating to the firms business - especially if it is on their time.

Still, seems harsh for posting enthusiasticly about you products.

ah, yes. Now I see how that might have compromised things.
I think I would have been binned for some of my posts about our boat show performance, but since it is my company I can say what I like. I think a lot more transparancy in all walks of life would make the world an easier place to inhabit.

Still, I think the sack is a bit harsh. A written warning and an the removal of your obviuos links to the business on the forum would probably have sent the message home.

I can't see that anything about the buying PROCESS is really much of a secret???

Was it that the post related to a PARTICULAR sale? in which case breach of confidentiality might be an issue - but posting how a P/X works surely is no great secret, and if it is - and they don't want the world to know how the real world works says a lot about them....

Perhaps they are secretly "writing back the deals" themselves and saving the £3700 of VAT I mentioned in my post - now not wanting customers to know THAT might just make you a whipping boy....

When I worked in the Motor Trade, quite often we used to do the deal one way, then when the customer collected the car the invoice was "written back" to have the P/X stood in at the trade price and the new car at the discounted price - 99% of the time the customer was happy and the dealer saved the VAT - it was worth doing even for a drop of a few hundred quid - more than worth doing for several thousands.

Im back, as my old self. Brokerben here.

I am working with a few people, including CE Proof, so am still in touch and have my fingure on the pulse so to speak.

I had just started, so probationary period didn't work out.

Owning a 41 foot sailing boat and having a week's notice was a bit of a bummer.

Now looking for something similar, I am an honest chap, and do try to help people out as much as possible. I am sure something will come along...

Anyways, hello again chaps!

FFS. Does your ex-company think we all walk around with our heads up our arses? Nothing you said was a surprise. And it's nothing to be ashamed of. If someone wants to sell a boat quickly they're going to have to take a trade price. If that's a price they can't accept they're free to market the boat elsewhere. And it's also pretty obvious that sometimes to make a deal happen, a dealer is going to have to cut into his margin.

Nice to see you back. As it happens, we bought our MF625 from your ex-employer this year so I am a little surprised. Having said that, I didn't understand what you said that could have been taken so badly by SM, personally the sort of person I am, I like things set out plainly, fair and square and I don't object to people making a living selling things, I just like to know the numbers so as I can make my judgement as to honesty etc. Oh dear, I'm being naive again, aren't I!

I think that the post that has got Ben into trouble is this one below. Owning up to a 25% margin on a £200,000 boat is what I suspect got him into difficulties! Lots of us know this but not all.

Customer has Ski Boat retail £50,000 and with 18 hours on , so wants £45,000 for his boat.

We have boat listed he wants for £200,000.

Our margin on the boat could be £50,000 if she were ours.

We have no interest in the Ski boat, only the sale of the new boat, but in order to sell him a new boat we have to take his old boat...

So we call around and ask trade people if they would be interested in a Ski boat, retail £50k and invite offers...

We get offers around £25k for the boat, we knock £25k out of our margin and can offer the customer £50k for his boat if he buys ours at retail.

We then take his boat and give it to the person who offered £25k on it, getting us our £25k back without taking the boat into stock, and the boat doesn't appear in our line-up at twice the price the next day.

In effect somebody ends up getting a great deal on the part ex boat, so we can do the deal.

In effect we sell our boat to him at a £25k discount, as we only get £25k back for his boat, but gave him £50k for it. The other £25k for his boat has come straight from the dealers' margin.

I hope that makes sense!

Very sorry to learn of your sacking - your empoyers seem to be oart of a narine set that live in another world ..... do they really think we are all idiots out here ..... I suppose the naswer to that is yes.
Amazing and not deserved.

Well that 25% is soon going to be eroded by finance house charges, salaries, rent, heat, light and the vagaries of punters who won't close deals. I can't say I find it a surprising margin on a high end luxury goods.

More fool your ex employers for getting rid of someone who appears to take more than a passing interest in what you do.

Hope all works out well for you. Suspect the Marlow dealers in Wales may need some help pretty soon.....................

Was on earlier wondered why youd gone a bit quiet, good luck in finding a new employer thats in the real world, most boats are bought by people in business, to be in business you have to make a profit, that is a mark up or margin, cant see what there problem is if there reading this as they must have been to give you th elbow! bet they wont findanyone with your knowledge, most broker dont even know there product let alone ce ruling etc. Good luck ben.
