I am having problems with my Plastimo 809-S jib furler (SURELY NOT? I hear you say). It may simply be a sign of age (no, the age of the jib furler...) but it was becoming more and more difficult to furl and unfurl. Then a couple of months ago the castellated plastic nut unscrewed itself from the top swivel and the jib came down. Having screwed it back together again, it worked ok for a few weeks, but yesterday it came down again. Looking at the castellated nut, it's not clear to me if you are supposed to screw it down so far that the top of the threaded shaft onto which the nut screws is level with the top of the nut. I can't get it to screw that far down. Before it gets that far, I can feel the threads overriding each other. Does anyone have a view?
Also, it's not clear to me why the nut keeps coming off. I am simply screwing it down hand-tight, and there doesn't appear to be anything stopping it from coming loose again. Any ideas?
