Plastic washboards.

FWIW No. 2. I know that everyone says you can get the stuff from sign makers but, in my experience, that just isn't so. The material we want for boats is a little specialist and I tried lots of suppliers, always with the same answer...."Yes, we can do it for you sir but we'll have to charge you for a full sheet" If I had wanted thinner material, either clear or an opaque colour it wouldn't have been a problem.

I'm glad someone else agrees. It is often said on here, but I have never found this obliging sign maker who has a bin load of suitable off cuts, and I've tried a few. Signmakers just don't seem to use compatible material.

I had no difficulty cutting and edge finishing my 8mm acrylic, by the way.

It's your insistence on thick stuff I suspect. No probs if you can accept the thinner stuff, which allows an overlap - as already stated.

Depends on where you are located. Never had any problems in Bournemouth or Southampton getting polycarbonate cut to size, but guess that reflects the large boating population.

I constructed some perspex washboards years ago and very useful they were.
I don't use them now, since I made a roll down fabric shutter. It is held in place with press studs, has a large flexi window and folds away on top of the sliding hatch when not needed.
The advantages are that it needs no special stowage, is dirt cheap, will not chip your varnish work and can be used underway or at rest - would not be without it.

Have you thought about making a frame and then fitting the thinner poly sheet into this?
It gives a more hard wearing edge which will stand up to a few knocks and in my humble opinion looks neater too!
