On this picture rolling is shown as movement fore and aft: I always thought this was pitching!

And the pitching movement shown in the diagram, I always thought this was rolling.

(And heaving was something I thought the crew did with their stomachs in a rough sea.)

Oh! well!

It's the way you look at the diagram. I think whover drew it up saw it as correct from his perspective. If you think of the roll arrow as being hanging over the side of the ship, and the pitch arrow hanging over the back, I think you will see it is correct. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I think that it is possibly a perspective problem. It depends how you look at the arrows.

Re: Pitching, rolling, yawing, heaving................................

The other arrows seem OK. I think it's a graphic design problem. The bloke has just put the text in the wrong spots. He probably doesn't know himself and followed a badly drawn diagram.
Should have been checked though.
Just shows how the tremendous resource known as the World Wide Webby Inteternetworky Thing has a lot of miss-information.

I dont think its perspective, the picture is just bollox. Pitch and roll are definitely reversed and yaw is movement on a diagonal axis

So your not keeping it going then?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Its called humor, I mistakenly thought the smiley might give a it clue.
Obviously not!!!
