Piracy attack Trinidad - Grenada, Apr 2019

It has been quiet for some time, a new attack reported yesterday by the Trinidad yachting association.
About 15M NE of Hibiscus platform, 55' sailing vessel attacked by a group of armed men, on the "Sylph" all escaped unharmed but with bullet holes on the boat.

Multiple shots were fired by the attackers. The yacht arrived in Trinidad with bullet holes.

The Trini authorities were quick to come up with a convoy system to be accompanied by an armed coastguard vessel.

That report has a lot mre deails and does indeed sound more like an attempted piracy attack. The first one may have been playing it down in a pr exercise.

They recommend that visiting cruisers view the map before deciding where to cruise in Venezuela. The areas where recent attacks have taken place are classed by ONSA as "High Risk Zones".
