Pipedream's progress in the Jester Challenge

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

Yep had that in mind.

Looks like he might be stuck with NEs for several more days which will slow down his return which he won't be happy about. At this rate he'll have to tack to avoid Portugal!

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

Er, stoopid question from ficko here /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif but how far is that ?

Used to have a site bookmarked that worked it all out, but can't find it now

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

I imagine Roger'll be along in a minute to tell you /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This looks as though it's going to be as gripping as his trip out. Do we need to bring a tight white jacket for him at this party?... in case he decides to turn round and go back /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

Just worked it out at nearly 2000 miles /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
If it was me I think I'd enjoy a pissup and get together after that kind of journey, and I don't think Alan is too different /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
As for stopping him from setting off, a heavy duty bungee around the waist may be in order /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oih! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I've already posted it - see above. Can't be right though for 24 hours but don't know when he left.

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

Hi all, Alans 2nd position below.
I've since had a call from Paul mead (another jester challenger) at 7.30 tonight saying he'd had a call from Alan who was thinking of going into Lisbon & was about to call A Paul Feasey (sailing a catamaran named Stingray) who arrived in Portugal tonight after having a tough time.
I'll keep you informed as soon as I hear any more progress.

1707 1330 39D59.9N 23D05.7W WIND BACKED A LITTLE AND NOW ON DIRECT COURSE FOR LISBON. IT DIDNT MENTION ANY OF THIS IN THE BROCHURE !

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

Looking at the forecast it seems these NE winds will last for 4 or 5 days before going more northerly. So heading for Lisbon (still 650nm away) is where the wind wants him to go and the further he goes that way the harder it will get to go North in the direction of home. Tough one Alan. Play it safe mate.

Perhaps a poor choice of words? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

If there is to be a Hero's Welcome Home sail past I would like to try and be there in Flipper - if others without local boats want to come out too? Am in Gurnsey (not on boat) 29 July to 5 Aug so hope it doesn't clash.

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

Sounds appealing to be a welcoming committee. We'll see what we can do although our diaries are horribly booked up with work (yuk) and MrC is doing a week's cruise at the beginning of August with some relatives.

Showers aboard my Mother Ship. He can then drink whilst in the shower, and relieve himself if required simultaneously. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

That is NOT an image that I wanted to have on a Friday afternoon!

Sounds a bit like an episode of Wallace and Gromit co-written by the creators of The Royle Family!

Alans 3rd progress report below. - Gary

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

I've just this minute had a phone call from Alan /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

He wanted more weather information to add to that obtained from passing ships. I had my PC on so looked up Weatheronline and Passage Weather and was able to confirm the the NE winds that "have been grim" since he left the Azores are with him tomorrow and Monday when they might back. He thinks he can make it to La Corruna on these winds and if so will leave the boat and fly back. He wants to be back by 1st August (I think he is taking the boys on holiday). If the wind did back enough he'd try and make it Brest but that doesn't look hopeful.

How nice to hear from him /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Pity it's not going brilliantly. I think landfall anwhere will be welcome.
