I'm chartering a yacht out of Levington in a few weeks time, just for the weekend. So as to prep myself, can someone recommend a pilot book for the area.

Thanks

There is a free handout from Harwich Harbour Authority available at most local chandlers (Levington have it) which covers the local rivers. You should find this a help. The East Coast Pilot book is also very good.

East Coast Pilot is the chapter and verse of technical information such as bearings and land fall points, but East Coast Rivers is a good Cruising Companion. If its just a weekend then the Stour is pretty and has some attractive anchorages, but a trip up to Ipswich will take you into the waterfront of the city and the wine bars etc, and on the way back woolverstone marina is good for a walk along to the Butt and Oyster at Pin Mill.

You might want to 'do' the Walton backwaters, but as a visitor to the Orwell from the Crouch, in my opinion, the Orwell is a nice cruising ground and has more than enough to fill a happy weekend's sailing without ever leaving the river.
