I've certainly learnt something from this thread.

After my first summer's sailing I now realise how clueless I am about the finer points of the art.

I've got a lot to learn, does it ever end?

? Why raise the tack ?

A strop to a fwd point and an eye in it so that sheet passes through it and then through car .... you then adjust the strop to haul the sheet down and fwd ...

Raising the tack raises the CoE higher and increases healing moment. Only advantage I would see with that is to sort out the sail going over the pulpit rail !!

As many have stated you never get decent photos of your own boat, so in the spirit of do unto others.... I regularly take shots of boats I pass on Coniston or on the Mersey. It is worth getting them printed just to see the look of delight on their faces when you hand over a good one of their pride and joy. Recently had the favour returned and received some great ones of us.

At work on the mersey, if they want some shots of the boat they just throw me over the side with my waterproof pentax

Cheek of the devil. PM it if it's not ridiculously big.

I've been messing with my headsail and lengthened the strop on the tack by about 6". Together with leading the sheets between the cap shrouds and the lower shrouds that has cured the open leech. There is actually a bit of hook in the leech now, but that's probably the age of the sail. At least I have a slot now.

The other advantage is that I can now see under the headsail to see how many rowboats I'm about to plough into.

Hmmm, dunno about ant of the sail trim stuff, but my Mrs who's been nagging me to move the boat for a year or two to Windermere just saw the piccies over my shoulder..... Doomed now, I'm gonna have to go sailing with the family and not just sit in the pub with me mates waiting for the tide to be just right or the wind to blow a bit less or a bit more. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Hook in leech .....

Do you have a leech line ?

As you know .... many people tighten thge leech line to stop the "flapping" leech ...which is actually showing the air-flow coming of the sail nicely ... causes the edge to vibrate. They tighten till a hook appears and then slack slightly till it's just stopped flapping but no real hook.

That's fine untill you alter the sheet lead ... then either the flapping or hook develops again.

So maybe you have the leech line too tight now ? If you have no leech line - then ???? Possibilities are :
a) Sheet lead too far fwd and now leech is taken unbalanced amount of load,
b) Leech hasn't stretched with the rest of sail during its life possibly because sail has been tensioned more along foot than leech ...

Does it bother you though ? Seems as if you are enjoying yourself ...

Other than that is seems OK, but I am expecting flutter, and as someone who tears cars apart to find rattles, this may be an issue.
