Phrases or sentences I dislike hearing

People who say everyone should work hard in life!

They should mind their own business, and indeed show respect to those who achieve well by cutting corners and keeping their head below the parapet

The best computer programmers are people who will spend time, energy and low cunning to find the easiest and quickest way of doing something. Anyone can write thousands of lines of code - the best will write hundreds of lines to do the same thing!

Good afternoon:

While it is interesting to learn which phrases or sentence irritate others, it was not my intention to encourage others to report their dislikes but to hi-lite the behaviour which increases the cost of doing business in Turkey for yachtsmen and ex-pats in general.

I tried to be careful in composing my post so not to insult those who have been guilty of using that phrase but in reality I think they are complete idiots and wish they would take a few minutes to try to understand something about how the local economy works before dealing with shops and workmen.

I am 99% sure that the incident I outlined above is a direct result of someone or a number of yachtsmen or ex-pats warping this owners sense value concerning his efforts. Without this I would not have had to have the experience I had - I would much rather deal with someone who treats me as a normal client and not as some foreign dummy who knows the value of nothing.

Cheers

...it's the law of averages [there isn't one];
it's the exception that proves the rule [an absurd contradiction, in the sense in which 'prove' is commonly used];
I should of...;
you can't do that [yes I can, I just proved I could. Or was that the exception that proves the rule...];
you've had enough.

Perhaps we were all thrown off track by the title of your post!

You'll have to forgive me, Squeaky, but I arrived here after Googling "least descriptive thread title since time began". ;)
As to your initial issue, I just send in the missus who haggles like a Turk yet still leaves them smiling at the end of it.
