Taken this morning going down.... Well you'll be able to read the blog ( http://yachtpixie.blogspot.com) later to see where it was.

Ah, 'twas yourself that we noticed anchored at Eilean nan Gamhna yesterday. We were the bespinnakered boat that passed you in the light winds. We were feeling very smug about catching up with motoring yachts, until it came to getting the bloody thing down again. It must have been very funny for the folk at Linnhe Marine, for, as chance would have it, the mild zephyrs immediately became a F5 as soon as I casually disengaged the guy from the pole. We ended ended doing about eight knots with the mad thing waving wildly in the sky.

I may be well off the mark here, but my honest impression of the two photographs by the original poster is that they are overexposed, and if that's what the view looked like at the time, then not worth photographing and certainly not worth sharing.
Some good stuff subsequent to that though.

I think it's the thought that counts & if my own efforts wer'nt entirely outclassed by the wonderful photo's of the Red Sea & the knowledge that someone else is living such a wonderful life compared to my own:(I would certainly contribute.Cheered me up just to see such wonderful photographs!Good show keep um coming.
Misery guts:p

Go on it is always worth contributing, and as can be seen by the various comments no one "correct" view.

Yep that was us! We saw you (but didn't know it was you) You were just too far away to get a decent shot.

I was slightly jealous we weren't going the same way as you, looked very relaxing.

It was the best day weather wise we've had since we arrived in Scotland, it really was stunning, and I finally got to see some stars. We went to bed looking out of the forehatch at the stars, great. But we were woken up by drizzle in the early hours:D

I woke up properly on Monday morning and someone had nicked the scenery!

OK glashen I can't ignore such a reasonable comment but still I hav'nt got any recent impressive photo's taken with my latest digital camera I want to boast about except maybe this one that strikes me as good quality considering it was just taken on auto (as are most of my shots).Who can frig about with all those complicated settings while sailing & handling a boat single handedly?

I expect I'll still get criticism but at least it looks like an impressive shot to me ( & I could'nt have got to that location & experienced it without the help of my boat);)
Second thoughts there is also a moonlight scene I am chuffed about, shall post them both. The rest & probably the better stuff can be viewed in my album attached to my profile.I particularly like the impressive scenery of the Isle of Wight by ST Catherines point.Hope you do too.......:)

what is wrong with filters and photoshop

Passing squall; no filters, no photoshop.

all cameras influence the way an image turns out - then the screen you see it on has an influence too

adjusting or cropping a shot to display it to its best effect is just one more part of photography

with my films I flop things, crop things, I speed them up and slow them down ..... and films look horrible if you don't colour balance them - you have to compensate for the difference between the human eye and the camera.

My film camera has three neutrasl density filters on it - the darkets allows just 1/64 of the light through - the human eye does not notice these massive changes in light - but the camera certainly does.

I am always amazed when I am sailing how the human eye can stabilise an image - try looking at the same thing through binocs or a video camera and you suddenly realise how much you or your target is moving around.

so what I say is - tweak away all you like people - just don't overdo it

and don't go thinking you are capturijng reality through a camera just because you have not adjusted the image - some scientist in Japan or germany has already done that for you

thats what I think - but I am a know nothing video man
