I use the jiggle thing with a 20l jerrycan and it only takes a few minutes to syphon. That way I'm getting petrol at £1.28 a litre from the local petrol station. £1.84 does seem a rip off.

Thanks all for the info. I have ordered a jiggle pipe and a self priming fuel transfer syphon Frankly as the tank holds 400 litres at 50p per litre difference, I could buy a full sized petrol pump and still be better off! Still love the outboard though!

There are two main issues here, first you have the Petroleum Spirit Regulations which are far stricter on petrol then diesel, these have been tightened over the years to the point that they have become absurd, and the cost of installing new equipment to meet these requirements, along with environmental emissions rises proportionally.

Second we have pure economics, the cost of installation is already prohibitive enough to make it economically unviable unless you have a good consistent demand for fuel and a regular customer base, then there are obviously profits. When making a return on your investment exceeds the life of your equipment you're onto a loser right from the start.

Hence why diesel and not petrol pumps are installed as their compliance for a single diesel fuel are much less than for a petrol or mixed fuel (petrol and diesel) installation.
