I was talking mainly about the recent conversions on the smaller boats, I mean it's obvious that the likes of the new QM2 is not going to swap her twin KAD32's for a couple of petrols is she, even though she would run a bit quieter /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Solitaire flies and is quiet - handles like a dream. I would change my petrol to Davids set up any day.

Well you certainly seem hooked, thing is I am about to order an engine for the new boat, I am still torn and am trying to convince myself a stinking expensive diesel is the way to go. I guess the size of boat I am looking at is on the border of economically justifying it, the only other way is to go large and have no worries at all /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

But would you give up two holidays to pay the extrra £10k minimum into the cost of getting it. I guess for those with the money it's not a problem, but running on a budget I have to calculate carefully /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

WADR dobbin is well and truly dead!

As Solitare shows, diesels arnt necessarily slow plodders, just ask the petrol heads that 'Muda has passed!

Also the greater torque helps in a following sea to prevent the 'bogging down' that (sometimes) happens with petrols.

I agree with all that BUT if you were buying a new small boat now, would you pay a £10,800 premium to have diesel rather than petrol, same boat everything? Now that is a lot of money, I need to justify how that could be recouped, OK some on resale value and a bit on fuel, but where on earth is the rest, can anyone make it simple for me? We are talking about a 5,0gxi dp to a KAD32 for the extra cash. Thanks in anticipation.

Ah, they work, but you would need to pop to Kwik Fit and get some old rubber tyres to surround it with to make it look more realistic /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif Must be embarassing when everyone keeps asks for a tow /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif Or is that the secret in how they get their money back /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

OK, if you are willing to pay the extra £10,800, then you realise you could in fact get a 4ft longer petrol boat for the same money, what then? I am creeping up in size, what is the sensible sized budget value for money boat for the very odd overnight, but mainly day use and marina mooring with all facilities, what new boat would you choose?

Look, I know that you have a unique set of circumstances in your discussions wit G******n , but personally I would prefer to spend the same money on a newish (larger)boat with diesels.

Holiday mode? I was all settled into getting my new boat when this bloody thread starts. I am not normally swayed easily but I am a bit twitchy, I am embarssed to say that I am tempted by diesel, I have not got time to try one out, so it would be a gamble to know how it went. The other problem is that I can only get the KAD 32, I would have liked one of the new D' series if I did make the stupidly expensive move. Anyway 2 days to sort it out /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

If I was to look for a new boat I be going much bigger and twin, but would also look at a big diesel rib. I'm not in a position to be doing such a thing, so Solitaire stays.
She offers me more room than any boat of an equivalent length - as you yourself have seen - she is the best seaboat of her size, I belive, that's ever been made and she is now highly economical to run.
The fittings are strong and the whole boat is well put together. Nah! My baby really ain't for sale.
