Mind you cannot see that encouraging passengers to travel into central Lonon to take a river trip outa London is GREEN in any WAY ?

I think it's more for commuters going in to London during the week, and to prevent fans driving to the stadium at weekends.

DHL have done similar - parcels are loaded on to a boat on the outskirts and taken in to the centre by river. At each drop-off a number of cycle couriers wait and do the last mile.

When we were racing Merlin Rockets on the tidal Thames at Ranelagh SC back in the 1960s one of the hazards if sailing along the north bank near Fulham FC on a match day, was empty bottles being hurled over the stadium wall into the river. I should add that the stadium in the photo is a much later addition and the Merlin Rockets have been developed almost beyond recognition since those days...
