Ipswich Plastics, 01473 270101. They're in Foxtail Road, Ransomes EuroPark just East of the Orwell Bridge. I got perspex from them several years ago to make washboards for my previous boat.
I was allways told that polycarbonate was unbreakable, indeed I remember a rep knocking hell out of some with a hammer. No breakages and it was only 5mm.
It's virtually unbreakable but it doesn't have the surface hardness of an acryilic and scratches more easily. It also seems to go a bit "milky" after a long time out of doors. I think there are some "impact-modified" acrylics available now and some "hard-faced" polycarbonates but I don't know trade names. We use some stuff called "Resist 65" at work for an anti-attack screen that seems to incorporate the best of both worlds!
Polycarbonate is certainly tougher than perspex [ie. resists crack initiation and propagation] but I feel that perspex of the same thickness as your original washboards [so that it fits the grooves without rattling] would be adequately strong.
Perspex and polycarbonate may both be made from oil but they completely different materials. Perspex was created by the devil, polycarbonate by the angels, its easy and forgiving when working with it. You can break a piece of Perspex but not poly, million times stronger.
Agreed. Perspex (acrylic) and polycarbonate (Lexan etc) are different. I was saying that Perspex was a brand of acrylic sheet (ducks behind his bullet-proof laminated polycarbonate windows /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif)
