acquired a second hand wheelhouse with fair perspex windows (very little stress cracking) but ithe windows have a gritty surface texture apart from a few minor scratches - what does the team think is best for general cleaning of the perspex and how best to rub out the scratches, without making it worse!

farecla.Dont know if i have got the spelling correct,Can be done by hand but is better with a machanical mop,(pollisher) Great results on old plastic windows

I'd suggest using a progression with modest cutting to remove scratches followed by fine polishing and finally an optical coating.

It's important not to allow the plastic to overheat, so if you are using a rotary power tool, use a slow speed and/or small diameter disk.

This is also applies to flexible vinyl windows, except the requirement is more critical because they are more easily damaged and tend to loose plasticisers.

You can get separate compound, polish etc or we (Boatsheen Ltd) do vinyl window restorer kits with all you need, including an optical coating that gives UV protection. See our web page on window restorer kits which has some more information.

I think in your situation I would look into proper acrylic polishes. They might cost a bit more but it would be worth it rather than risk wrecking the windows by using unsuitable compounds.
You would not be pleased if you discovered a solvent in something you used caused a load more cracking.

John, I looked at your website, but I don't see a mention of polycarbonate windows. Do they need a different treatment?

Hi Robin
The system will work equally well on polycarbonate windows.
