Personal Liability Insurance on Flotilla Holiday

I'm off on a Flotilla holiday with Sailing Holidays in Greece soon - very much looking forward to it!

I've got a question on insurance, more specifically Personal Liability (PL)
Sailing Holidays offers insurance (@~£70 for 2 people). This explicitly includes PL whilst we are sailing.

My wife has a Barclays Additions account, which explicitly includes Flotilla Sailing and PL, but exludes PL when on the boat (or any other 'motorised' transport).
I've also looked up LV='s policy and that's the same as Barclays.

What do people think - do we need PL whilst on the boat, or should the Flotilla boat insurance cover things?

Hi Paul, What do you need personal liability for? The most potentially dangerous moments are mooring up and leaving your mooring. The Sailing Holidays
staff will be there to help you with that and you will effectively be under their supervision. What else is risky? There is a slight danger of collision whilst
under way, but so minimal compared to the Solent. Stop worrying, the sailing is easy and you will enjoy your holiday with this company. you will find that
they are very laid back.
Regards Phil

Personally, I would not do anything with out having PL cover. You just don't know who might be of the "compensation culture" that is in it for a quick buck. Very sad but true. It might even be another flotilla member who stubs their big toe on your boat having been invited on board for a quick sundowner in the evening and claiming it's your fault.

I am sure that has never happened ...... but.....

Personally, I'd go for the insurance with the cover. What's £70 as a % of the total holiday cost?

Relax. The people that you meet on flotilla holidays are there for the social life as much as for the sailing and they are not mean spirited.
Save your £70 insurance money and use it to buy a few rounds in the taverna.

I wouldn't dream of sailing in UK without appropriate insurance - so why would I do so on Flotilla?

Last time I was sailing abroad I found an annual policy that covered everything I needed for about £70-80, I think it was with Pantaenius

Pantaenius' 'Mariners Travel Policy' has the same exclusion. <http://www.pantaenius.co.uk/uploads/media/Towergate_Policy_Wording_-_February_2013_01.pdf>

Can I ask what is the point of having PL insurance for a flotilla holiday if it excludes on the boat. Then it is wothless, or have I misunderstood something.

Thanks for all the comments.
I decided to phone LV= about their policy (I work for them, albeit in IT). They confirmed that I'd got it wrong and that the particular policy I was looking at DID include PL when on the boat, as long as its the main activity of the holiday and I'm less than 12 miles offshore.
I'd read the fine print, but not the super fine print - Ok, it's all the same size print but you get the gist!

It is interesting that some exclude it though for certain activities- something to look out for when you're next shopping around.

I'm a bit confused by this. Boats in the (EU) Med, and certainly in Greece, have to have third party liability insurance by law. Isn't this the same as Public Liability insurance?

Are SH essentially telling you they're letting you charter their boat without insurance, and it's down to you to either pay extra for their insurance to cover you, or sort out your own? That sounds rather odd to me.

Edit: Or is this PL insurance for when you're _off_ the boat? In which case, what a load of ****. You don't normally have PL insurance for day to day life.
