Persistent Boatshow advertising in the margins of my screen...what is this new hell?

There's no ad on the ipad because the ad is Flash, which is not supported on the ipad. If you disable flash/shockwave in your browser (Tools->add-ons->Plugins in firefox 23), you can get rid of it without downloading any dubious additional software. It was killing the browser on my low power Linux desktop, so I had the choices of not reading this forum or disabling the ad (sorry YBW). Unfortunately marketing people still haven't learned to ask their pet web folk "Yes very pretty but how will this perform on a low power / low bandwidth system"?

I have had a look at Firefox which I use and can't immediately see a way of doing this, is there? or do I have to resort to adblocker which may blaoc other things of interest.

I could not see a way of altering the page width in Firefox either but probably just missed it.
minimize the browser page then drag the edges to the size req

Chrome App Store Load Adblock Extension = Job Done

Loading chrome adblocker from the Chrome App store solves this problem - once again add free.

Suspect this latest move by YBW will not increase their circulation!

Thanks chaps, nice to know I wasn't the only one regarding these adverts with deep detestation.

I realise IPC has to explore all routes for income-generation...but I'd be fascinated to know how much they've benefited, with this new irritation to forumites.

I'd have hoped their respect for (and recognition of) serious long-term contributors would justify putting an 'x' in the corner of adverts, so that folk who come here to get or give assistance, could click the adverts away and needn't be hampered by unsubtle marketing techniques.

Some hope. God bless AdBlocker. How do we make this thread a 'sticky'?

there is an anouncement at top of forum, it said to contact them with any problems, which ive done and told them most people are downloading adblocker

We can't stickify the thread, "they" can, but seems unlikely. You could ask "them".

If you are a Windows user you can use notepad to edit the file 'hosts' in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and just below the line that says:

127.0.0.1 localhost

add another line:

127.0.0.1 http://cdn.inskinmedia.com/

whilst there I would add doubleclick.net too

(If Windows 7/8 copy the hosts file to desktop, edit and then copy back or it won't save to \Windows\system32....)

Sorry to say it but! if its for Free or without charge to customers, then Advertising somewhere pays for it.

Bit like the 'commercial' breaks on 'Commercial' TV channels.

With 'cut backs' everywhere in Real World (Commercial one) guess the opportunity to have Advertising on an Internet Site is very strong, if the need is there then 'needs must' as they say.

Just lets rejoice that this Site is still free to us users, although some might find it tiresome to see Advertising sometimes, do not knock it.

Ads are not a problem, its the flashing jumping ads that slow my putor down that i object to, and have had to block, if they had been static i probably would have left them
