Acrylic is the material. Plexiglass; Altuglass; Perspex.... all trade names.

Don't recommend polycarbonate (Lexan, Palsun etc) for inferior UV properties and will scratch much more quickly than acrylic.

Thanks for this 'heads up', which has reminded me I have several alu-framed hatches squirreled away and all but forgotten. They were 'pulled' from a couple of big mobos, as the acrylic had crazed. It sounds as if it would be a relatively straightforward job to clean 'em up sometime and fit new dark acrylic.
