"perpsex" hatch

Hi All
My hatches are inlaid with with 510 x510 x 10mm "perspex"(for descrition only) . Time to relace one as its slightly crazed . What type of material should I relace it with ??

Sounds like US Law Enforcement slang (they call suspects "perps"). I don't want to speculate what it might mean

Not quite sure but I think it may be concerning my run in with the forum policeman .

Acrylic (Plexiglass) is the best choice - lasts longer and is certainly strong enough. All hatch manufacturers except Bomar use it - including Lewmar.

Rather than pay the £200 - £300 to replace it, is it possible to take the hatch to an autoglass type firm and get them to replace the perspex / glass ?

Has anyone done that?

AFAIK "Plexiglass" and "Perspex" are both trade names but, if that is wrong, I can guarantee that somebody will shortly be along to correct me!

I doubt that a car windscreen company could do it. They will normally just buy in the glass windscreens and simply fit them.

I replaced the perspex in my hatch, but it is not a Lewmar so I don't know how those are glazed. On mine I was able to jemmy the old one out, make up a new one and fit it in. It was held in place by 4 small screws and a lot of Sikaflex. Cost less than £20 for the perspex which I was able to machine myself with a router.

I'll never never ever never go to Autoglass again !
