Wotcha All,

I have replaced the prop shaft seals on my saildrive.

The book says reassemble the carrier to the saildrive body using "permatex" on the mating faces.

I have a large collection of greases, gloops, sealants and liquid gaskets and am reluctant to buy another expensive tube to use one squeeze and then carry around for twenty years before I need it again and find its gone off !

What is permatex, what does it do, seal , stop metals interacting, lubricate or what?

What are the alternatives ?

Thanks.

If you put permatex into google it'll come up with the manufacturer, together with different varieties - I suspect it is similar to other automotive gloops like Hermatite etc or the Blue stuff I use for all sealing bits - sorry I've forgotten the name but it's recommened by Rolls Royce. I've had it for years.
