Interesting thread revival. I am surprised at how many different means there seems to be. I almost never enter a marina except to fuel up or if mates drag me in on the promise of wine women and song. So I am surprised I've been doing it wrong. This would be my marina setup.
But then my river berth is exposed to swell and wind and I go a bit OTT on my floating pontoon. To appease Mapism the ropes are only ever in tension one way so crossed ropes never meet. The boat can move ~ 1 m fore and aft and move from the pontoon about 1m. Waves and wakes seldom more than 0.5m
