Hi,

Apologies for the possibly random nature of this thread,

Due to the unexpected death of my father last year i have become the unexpected owner of a Perkins Diesel Engine that my dad had as spare for his fishing boat, Im currently trying to help my Mum "de-clutter" and it has to go... The only thing is i have no idea how to get rid of it or really what its worth, (I feel a little uncomfortable at the idea of selling the engine in the first place TBH, let alone getting ripped-off..)

I was hoping some of you kind people woulwitd be able to have a look at the pictures and advise me as to what it's realistically worth and where i should put it up for sale.

I do have a Manual for it:

"Perkins WORKSHOP MANUAL 4.108M Series"

And

"Perlins Power Service Workshop Manual: 4.99 4.107 4.108"

I am not too sure which model the Engine is (or even how to check..)

(If i have posted this in the wrong section of the forum or this type of post is not allowed please let me know and i will remove it.)

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Cheers

Alex

Id place it on boats and outboards or ebay it, im sure you will get a good price for it, as you dont know its history id sell it as seen.

These motors are getting a bit rare now, some parts are NLA from perkins.

Good Luck, was in same position 10 years ago when my father passed away, still have some of his Lister engines now.

Alex,

Not a Perkins 4.107/108 I am afraid, it is an old Dot 1 4.203 industrial engine, not a marine or agricultural engine, so worth about £200.

Try advertising it in one of the land rover magazines as they used to be a popular conversion a few years back and someone may need a replacement or spares

I used to own a marinised 4203 perkins , all spare parts came from the local tractor dealer as they were used in Massey Fergusons. Ebay will probably give you the widest coverage for selling.

Spot on. Not a valuable motor, mainly used as donkey engines. Used to recondition some of em for the Armed Forces, they used to power self propelled guns apparently when they were unlimbered. Seen em in fork trucks too. IIRC Caterpillar used to paint em yellow and re badge em as their own in their small plant.

Used to work at a place that did Dot 5 4236 conversions for range rovers. Much better motor for the road IMO, controlled expansion pistons, uprated turbo and fuelling, sodium cooled ex valves, the works.

Thanks!!

Hey...

thanks everyone for the replies... im amazed you guys can tell exactly what it is so easily!!!

I really appreciate the time taken to ID it for me..

Cheers
