Hi all,

New to your forum so sorry if there is a thread discussing this issue some place. A search did not seem to immediately reveal any.

My single normally aspirated 6354 surges at low rpm. Goes fine at higher rpm, so would not appear to be a fuel delivery issue, but would an air leak in the fuel lines cause this?

Any other suggestions that would be worth a try?

Thanks

A split diaphram in the lift pump can cause this or a blocked primary filter, as the fuel pressure needs to stabilize in the injection pump body, check all unions from the lift pump to the tank as a starter.

Is your fuel return pipe a plastic one? If so, watch it carefully for bubbles, if you see some then you know its drawing in air, very common on 6.354's to hunt when air gets into the pump.

Thanks for your replies. I will go and look at fuel line unions. The return line is metal so I can't see if I have bubbles but I'm sure you are right in thinking I will have. It has only just started happening so a union coming loose is probably likely. Otherwise its a pump diaphragm.

In any case its all good fun tracking it down with that sense of accomplishment once the problem is solved.

Hi Folks

A bit late on this thread but thought I'd I'd add my bit anyway. We have a naturally aspirated 6354 and we had a little surge at low revs plus a very small knock. Turned out to be water in the fuel and fixed by firstly cleaning out the fuel filter and tidying up the fuel
