on the 1407 perkins the dipstick is as you look at the front of the engine on the left hand side low down. it is quite short. hope this helps.

there are lots of varients of this engine, but try on the side of the sump as they are often low down and can be difficult to get at, if its a lowline it is on top beside no.2 and no.3 injecters in the space between the exhaust manifold and the head.

Where the dipstick is positioned will depend on the type of conversion/marinization that you have as the 4108 could have been a donor from many a vehicle. To find it look down low towards the engine sump and look for a metal rod with a finger hole, if it is a good conversion there will be a thin pipe coming up from the sump but if it is not obvious I doubt that this is the case with your engine. As a guide the dipstick filler will be on the injector side of the engine about 5 inches up from the base of the engine, good luck...

On mine, its on the right looking from the front, and enters the sump just in front of the starter.
