Perkins 4108 Oil filter

Up until now I have used Crossland 532oil filters, but since the demise of Lucas UK I am having to use another motor factor which sell Fram filters. They are not sure which filter to use a a replacement. They are offering either Fram PH2821A or Fram PH2869. Which is the correct one?
 
and Audi 1.9 TD/ A4 1.9 TDI up to 09/96; Audi A6 TDI up to 06/96,; A6 2.5 TDI......also various Seats and VWs. I have the carton here so can give mor einfo if you want it.

Impeller seems to be a 12 blader, common with Volvo Penta although the workshop manual clearly shows 6 blades; am concerned 'cos with 12 fins, there's hardly any room for the water !!
 
I just bought some genuine Perkins filters for my trip. From memory about 3.40 each from my local tractor dealer in South Woodham Ferrers. At that price I bought 10.

Sorry to tell you this but you can get them cheaper than that ... and it's not necessary to buy Perkins Genuine ! Plenty of others ... Donaldson for example ... mine cost about a quid each.
 
just be careful with the cheap ones ,some do not have anti-drainback valves inside,this stops the oil draining back to the sump when the engine is left for a few weeks.

Never heard of that. Interesting. Would have thought that considering oil passages etc. in engine that oil would drain back via many avenues - not only via filter.

Anyway - the links I gave I believe comply with EU / CE so have to be marketable quality and suitable if quoted for a particular engine / filter replacement ?

mmmmm will have to ask around about this as never heard it before.

interesting, the urban myths that get passed on, ref valves in filters, some of them do have them BUT they are there only as a last defence if the filter gets blocked. So they are not there to "pressure relieve" or "stop oil draining back" As another OP pointed out, the pressure relief system is actually in the engine.

I am well aware of the bypass .... the guy was saying that cheap filters allow drain down back to sump - which implies something different.

That's how I understood it ... but he had me stumped trying to figure his valve out !!
