Please forgive the seemingly daft question but....does anyone know how much oil a Perkins 4108 takes.

I'm want to buy the new oil before I remove the old stuff.

Thanks

Hi

Manual here (in Foreign Language) ... Manual

From it:

Carterinhoud : 7 IMP pints (4 liter) 4,2 U.S. quarts
Totale oliecapaciteit : 8,5 IMP pints (4,8 liter) 5,1 U.S. quarts
Carterinhoud low line motoren : 7,88 IMP pints (4,5 liter) 4,8 U.S. quarts
Totale oliecapaciteit bij low line
motoren (aluminium carter) : 9,38 IMP pints (5,3 liter) 5,7 U.S. quarts

I would go with "Totale oliecapaciteit : 8,5 IMP pints (4,8 liter)"

If you want an English manual, try here (scanned so 54mb!!):

Hope this helps

Depends on whether lowline or standard sump etc. Plus type of oil-filter fitted and whether you have a manual oil drain pump fitted ...

It ranges from just under 4.7 litres to just over 5.2 ... so if you buy a 5 litre job - it should do the job.

My 4-107 took 4.9 litres just a few weeks ago ... (4-99, 4-107 and 4-108 are basically same motors ....)

The language is my beloved own: Dutch.

Carterinhoud = sump or oil pan content
Totale oliecapaciteit = total oil content

I suppose the difference between the two is explained by the content of the oil filter?

I have both the commonly found limited manual ... which Moteren had before being closed down ... but also the FULL workshop job at over 90 mb ....

The quoted here of 4.8 litres is as I said in my other post for only one version - there are various versions and each has slightly different volumes depending on sump pan ... lowline or standard. Also the fitting of a sump pump and can or all-in one filter etc.

the oil filter is the same as the 3.500cc Rover V8

Bong !! Sorry ... not always ...

My filter has just been changed and its the Ford Probe spec. The quoted one didn't fit !!

There are various filters fitted at various stages f manufacture - not only that but it can have removable paper filter in can - or the all-in one type cartridge style.

It's the reason that manuals don't give - well my manuals anyway - any actual ref. number only general statement about them.

So advise is to take of old filter - wipe it off and use the ID number on it to replace ... (my guy didn't - he used the sheet table supplied by filter co. and then found it didn't fit !!)
