I have the original (so I believe) secondary filter on my engine.

It takes a now obscure filter element. I think I have seen somewhere in the past a replacement that takes a screw on disposable filter similar to the average oil filter, but can't track anything down. Any ideas where I could look?

I have just replaced similar.
From a Massey Ferguson tractor agent.
They are available as per your piccie.
Give Me a day or too to dig the invoice out.
Then I can furnish you with a part No.

That looks very similar to a bog standard cav offering, you can buy the filter head for about £20 and the filters are common, I think racor do a spin-on conversion for them as well, check out asap-supplies.com.

I agree. Looks like a bog standard CAV to me too. Filters are made a variety of companies (or are 'badged') and are very cheap. I buy filters six at a time from my local car motor factors.

Mine takes Ford Probe filters (diesel) ... and it's same as yours. If you can wait - I'll can give you generic ID number of it tmrw ..

You say secondary filter ? That's the original primary 4-107 filter .. looking from front of engine left side at back ?

Located as you describe, I say secondary because there is a sediment filter located between it and the fuel tank. Number would be good thanks.

Thought as much ... I keep thinking about it but can't be bothered to cut the lines and fit !

Little tip - you probably already know ... but on the Injection pump label - you'll have max RPM it's set for listed on it. Plus where main fuel in goes - when you remove the pipe fitting - under it is a little thimble filter which is last line of defence to stop pump being clogged with cr*p if primary filter fails ... You cant get that thimble out without taking pump of ! I know I've tried. No manual or book mentions it.

When my system got clogged in 2006 before bring boat out here - I sourced a replacement pump. All indications and advice I rec'd from mechanics was governor was probably shot. Cheaper to find 2nd-hand replacement. I did ... fitted it and same again. While using second pump - local truck Volvo guy - my pal - dismantled the pump to clean / check. Found the thimble all blocked solid. washed it .. put it back ... ran the pump up on the bed ... like new ! We swapped it back to boat and he took away second pump - same.

I wonder how many pumps have been replaced for that simple little bit !

Oh - the second pump was set for 500 rpm more (factory setting).

Just thought I'd pass it on ... you may not have the thimble of course ... but you never know !

OK .... local engineer supplies me these at about a pound each - they are direct equivalent of the CAV Fuel filter ...

I note that top of your Fuel Filter does not have the Fuel Return connected ? Do you have a return for excess fuel to the tank ? Here you see the low pressure line connected for feeding excess fuel back to tank - which can also feed the cold start......

Hope that helps ... sure Google with those numbers / id's will bring up allsorts of equivalents as well ...
