Thanks, I hadn’t considered yacht clubs. Shows my ignorance. To answer your question as to what boat.
I was hoping to buy something cheap, safe to sail, dry when sailing, safe, clean, smelling of roses and safe. All of which would please swmbo and encourage her to step aboard; something she refused to do when I sailed dinghies. I am, or was, looking to preferably spend less than £10k. Much less if possible. As a beginner Iwas looking for something about 22 feet and had more or less narrowed the choice to a Hurley 22 or 24/70 preferably with bilge keels. Unfortunately swmbo noticed a particularly dire Hurley 22 at Nationwide and ran off back to the car. A H22 may not now be a feasible proposition!
I’ve made two mistakes with swmbo (3 if you count Nationwide). I took her to Southampton boat show where a very helpful man let her poke around a brand new Hunter Channel 27 for 30 minutes. She now thinks all boats will be as immaculate, as spacious and have 6ftl headroom. Secondly, she saw my copy of 101 Boat Tests and the pretty photo’s. She’s now only interested in boats that ARE immaculate, spacious and with 6ft headroom. Which explains why Nationwide gave her such a shock. I don’t see the problem with headroom, she’s only 5ft 4in, but there we are - back to the drawing board.

Re: Mine is NOT for sale !! but

Have you thought about a Macwester Rowan? Really well built, long keel and most have bilge plates so you can stand up straight.Try the Macwesters owners site and look under boats for sale.www.macwester.org I have a Macwester 30 and at "owners meets" have met many Rowan owners who speek very highly of them. They are stable and roomy for their size and can stand up to rough weather. If you get interested in them and want more info send me a PM. In my earlier post I said I had seen a good boat a Temple Marine but I posted the wrong make it is a Vivacity 24 which was in very nice condition. You could take SWMBO to see it. It has a dinnette arrangement which SWMBOs seem to like as it gives them a table to set! www.templemarine.co.uk Good luck Paul

But should you take a trip (email or in person) to Holland you will find agents. Real agents. And the products they offer will surprise you for the quality of the presentation...

I'm moving my Nantucket Clipper to a "Boat Bar" on the German Baltic coast, and I was told in no uncertain terms that they expect her to be in as good a condition as possible! Fresh paint touch up, cleaned out and shiny. They only charge 8% (less if she was a more mainstream boat!), for everything - including maintainance and looking after at their permanent in water show. I do have to pay extra for dockage though... 50 Eur a month!
I can imagine that there would be no danger taking the good lady to that kind of place to see a fine selection of fresh yachts that have been regularily aired and dusted. I bet they sell like hotcakes!
