My first trip out for a while, so it will be just perfick. Either a jaunt up to Harwich or, more likely Brightlingsea which will be a first for me. Does anyone know what time the water taxi runs until on weekend eve's, and is it Kovalams that is the good Indian and where is it, and what are the best pubs, and, and, and, and ??

I so like that plan !! Will be at Bradwell late Friday if you are around for a beer /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Do not be fooled by poor, cheap imitations.

See you didn't take any notice of my well-thought out advice, Alan.

The pub closest to the water is the Yachtsman's Arms but I don't think they do food.

Usual routine at Brightlingsea is fish and chips eaten on the quay - watch out for the seagulls!

Fish and chip shop operates in mysterious Essex ways. They close before the shop sign says they do. They run out of fish. Or run out of chips. Otherwise they are perfect in every way.

The Colne Yacht Club serves basic pub grub and has a balcony overlooking harbour which is quite pleasant to eat on (and watch the fish and chip eaters from above while they are being mobbed by seagulls).

Brightlingsea Harbour folk are very welcoming and friendly and help you moor up.

Err, are you sure you want to eat curry and drink beer given the circumstances of this outing?

Current landlord (Ken) has or is about to retire. Rumour is that new incumbent intends to do food, yet to be substantiated.

Far better to go to Winkies which is up New Street (head past the chippy on the hard, past the Yachtsmans, follow the road round to the right at the end and then keep going straight up, leaving the now defunct Sun PH on your left) - much better fish & chips, you don't have to wait half an hour in a queue of 3 people every time you go there, and they have a rather quaint little restaurant on the side.

I'm told that the Water Taxi service is changing hands next year but will still be running.
