Been chasing a drip for some time, now its obvious.
Have just rinsed it down with fresh water as it spills over the alternator.

Had the seals replaced last year, as it leaked. Shall buy a complete new one, keyparts. Don’t need the hassle.

Am about 30 mins away from ‘home’
Pootle up and its unlikely to overheat ???
It’s plumbed into the calorifier too, so that should help cool it ?

it now leaks impressively.
Will wash it all down with fresh water once back on the trailer tomorrow.

The only reason it’s leaking is the shaft may be scored or the seal was a cheap non Volvo one with steel springs .
You can buy a wear kit or shaft kit to rebuild the pump .

One of the mobo engine bods recently suggested that 150 hours was usual for a water pump problem .

A new one will take away any likelihood of a sudden increment in drip rate, and will save you time. You cab always take it to pieces when the new one is installed, and do a proper 1005 refurb at leisure. Then you have invested in a spare critical component :)

Indeed, that’s what i have started. New one fitted today. Leaked first time as i had forgotten to tighten one of the clips. Another advantage of being trailer / shore based, fresh water only. That connection only had one clip on, doubled up on that now.

I’ll take it apart later in the year and see what the shaft is like.

Tnx for all your suggestions.
