I did think about it, but I didn’t think to post something. What a tragic loss, all those brave men of the Solomon Browne, and those from the Union Star.

God bless all of them, and all of the lifeboat men and women who risk their all to keep the rest of us safe.

Here here. Brave souls.

But let’s remember all those who have lost their lives in lifeboat disasters - List of lifeboat disasters in Britain and Ireland - Wikipedia

Shockingly 5 out of the last 10 (in UK & Ireland) happened in Scotland - and Fraserburgh station suffered not one but three fatal lifeboat capsizes in the 20th century. Rough waters

There do not seem to be any pictures of the “Union Star” in happier times but this was her twin sister:IMG_5885.png

Dick Stone QC, the Wreck Commissioner, was a man whom I saw a good deal of and whom I greatly admired. He also handled the Formal Enquiry into the loss of the Marques, three years later.

It is always sad when those who loose their lives attempting to save others.

This reminds me of the sailors hymn written by William Whiting

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose hand does bind the restless wave,
Who bidst the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!
