We've heard bad things about peniche marina. Mainly about high levels of swell and wash from fishing boats .

Is this true? Or are the internet posters being too harsh.

We want to stay there for about a week, for the surf. However it's not going to happen if we keep getting tipped out of our bunks.

Cheers

It was bumpier in the harbour on the pontoon than anchored outside in the bay near the beach when we were there. Guess where we stayed?

It was calm when we were there a few years ago too, surely it depends where the swell on that coast is coming from ? Peniche is protected from the predominant NW Atlantic swell

We spent a couple of weeks in Peniche and found it pretty good, moored on the outside of the pontoon there was no swell but a good bit of wash when the fishing fleet were on the move that made it a bit bumpy at times. We did not find it too challenging but we did put a couple of extra fenders out.

Very friendly and helpful community there though and Peniche is definitely somebody that I will go back to.

We've anchored outside but not been in, too many bad reports of wash.

A good alternative in settled weather if you don't need supplies is to anchor at the Berlenga Islands about 5 miles west of there, nature reserve with clear water and a popular scuba site. Anchor in around 15 metres just off the old fort and dinghy into the caves.
