I'm spending the day in Falmouth and have been visiting marinas with a view to moving the boat down for a year or so. I like Pendennis for proximity to town/beaches/sea. Are there any downsides?

It’s a great spot - good (ish) restaurants and bars all within a short walk, great reach for a run to St Mawes, Mylor, Helford, Truro etc.

A little more exposed to occasional high winds coming through Carrick Roads than say Falmouth Marina but
you’re protected from the swell that comes through in an easterly.

Only real downside is the time it takes to drive through town to get to the marina but it will be less time than you’d spend moving the boat from Falmouth Marina to the bay - so no real loss.

I think it’s a good call if you can get a space.

If we ever need to stay in a marina, Port Pendennis would be our first choice. It’s a great location, not overly expensive and very sheltered. But best of all, the staff are great and the owner is a proper boater, he’s currently restoring a Nelson that he and his wife regularly take to Scilly. A very nice couple and great company.
