Pelican hook problem.

Hi,

I just bought some new 5mm SS guardwires with a pelican hook at one end (for ease of access in both a MOB situation and from the pontoon/dinghy etc) and I have found that the supplied pelican hooks won't fit through the steel rings that terminate the pull/pushpit rails (see pic).

The internal diameter of the rings is 1/2" (12.5mm) so can anyone tell me where I can get hold of a pelican hook that will fit through a 1/2" dia ring ?

Before anyone suggests chopping off the existing rings and welding on bigger ones, I don't want to risk that from the safety point of view.

Why not a small shackle through the ring for the new pelican hooks to clip to?

or a loop of cord, so you can in extremis cut the hook free ?
