peep your horn if you don't like raggies.

Passing lines to people who offer (in good faith) to help is fraught with danger.

Its true , someone let it slip to me that if he didnt like someone he always made sure he was around at berthing time to smile, so he could give the bowline a great big yank and scuff the gel coat

I think the moral of the story is try not to go out your way to p15s too many people off.

Passing lines to people who offer (in good faith) to help is fraught with danger. You (as skipper) have no idea of their competence (or not). The can be holidaymakers, gogoozelers, punks or rockers - but very seldom are they boaters!
.

understood, and have suffered at the hands of well meaning passers by, but in my little anecdote he KNEW I was off the motorboat, as he was attempting to berth right alongside of me.
Maybe it was the yottie saboteur club tie I was wearing at the time.

Would have to agree with this, and well put. I don't like help from the unknown either, they can pull you in or push you off just at the wrong moment. I often say under my breath but just loud enough for crew to hear, "don't you let go of that line!"

Still, it's nice to have a willing helper in awkward conditions stand by just in case. :o

Glad to hear you know how to uses springs Searush, there's not many of you you know... :p ;)

Standard Raggie procedure - especially against a quay wall with a big tide or in a raft. Are they not used much in marinas then? I would have thought they were essential to minimise ranging to & fro in waves or wind gusts, but I suppose you don't get that sort of thing in some marinas. I dunno, I never use 'em (can't afford them now I'm a redundant pensioner )
