We called into Peel last summer, and - thanks to a very friendly and helpful harbourmaster - spent a pleasant night safely alongside a traditional fishing boat, moored against the outer seawall.

However there was a great deal of work going on at the entrance to the main harbour. New lock gates were being constructed - the aim being to create a 'stay afloat' harbour, similar to the arrangement at Douglas.

I have been trying to discover whether or not the new facility is operational. Does anyone have an update on the current situation at Peel??

Reply from Peel itself!

All,

Just had a reply to an earlier e-mail query to IOM government dept.

Below is copy of their text:

"The Peel scheme has hit some difficulties since the information was put on the website and will not now be completed until the end of May.

Once completed we will be able to retain water in the harbour to a depth of 2.5 metres, at the new jetty and cill. The harbour will continue to dry out at the upper end. Further development, to provide pontoon berths, etc, will not happen for at least 3 years as our priorities will be centred elsewhere.

Should you wish to discuss berthing arrangements in detail please contact the Peel Harbour Office on 01624 842338 or email to Peel.HarboursDoT@gov.im"

Answered my question - hope this is of use to thoe who view the forum.
