Urinating in public in marinas

Doing this in a marina or any public place is likely to end up with you getting locked up if somebody complains.
If females complain about it, you could very well end up on the sexual offenders register,not something that will do your career prospects much good.
Certainly in my experience sex offenders generally started out by flashing in public places.
At sea ,who cares.. only seamen...

When sailing alone I do find that a bucket in the cockpit is a lot less hassle, and has a better view, than using the heads with all that opening and shutting seacocks in the bottom of a locker and pumping.

Given that pee goes into the water anyway if you use the heads in the marina, the only objection to peeing over the side is seeing people in the act.

I do pee over the side if (ok, when) I need to get up in the night, but only do so in the wee (!) small hours when I can be sure there is nobody about.

Question from SWMBO; what happens with large ships, cruise liners and the like. Do they have an enormous holding tank, that is emptied when they get to sea, or does waste go straight out?

The water is treated, the solid waste extracted the water is reused for things like flushing the toilets. They compact and freeze the solid waste and then it is stored until they reach port where it is unloaded.

Neither - they have a treatment plant whose liquid output you can, in theory, drink.

Stavros has the same, although it's clunky and unreliable and seems to need constant attention from the assistant engineer (abbreviation to "ass engineer" perhaps not entirely coincidental ). On one trip I did, some plumbing problem down below meant they had to run the discharge up through a deck fitting and over the gunwale via a 3" hose - no volunteers to drink it, but certainly it didn't smell.

I presume there's some minimum size above which this kind of kit is mandatory.

Seems like a good reason for encouraging the practice. Their contribution to the gene pool has probably already been made, they liberate housing, wealth and possessions for younger members of society, they do not require geriatric and social care. What's not to like?

wouldnt recommend it as no shouds to brace against
