I want to upload Waypoints to my Furuno GP-37 and MLR GPS from a laptop. I am having trouble finding a suitable program. EasyGPS does not work with Furuno or MLR. Can anyone help please.

I believe that the Furuno GPS expects a slightly unusual structure for NMEA waypoint sentences, hence your problem. For users of Ozi-explorer, there is a 3rd party Furuno conversion programme listed on the Ozi utilities page which works well with the ozi waypoint import/ export file system. It might be worth trying to use it on files from other plotting software. AFAIK, Ozi supports MLR directly for transfer from a PC.

EasyGPS is supposed to work with MLR GPS's. It should also work with the GP37 as this uses the standard WPL sentence for upload/download of waypoints. Note that you have to set up the GP37 to expect the download. Also note that downloading waypoints to the GP37 will delete any waypoints currently stored in it!.

GP37 requires no special form of data to up/down load.

If you manually put a couple of waypoints and a route into the GP37 and then save them to your PC, you can view the format that it uses, then when you send the data back, just make sure it looks the same format.

Sometimes the talker indntifier can be the reason for upload failure, ie. the two characters immediately after the $ at the beginning of the sentence.

.

This isn't quite my understanding. In answer to a query some while ago, Furuno told me that their GPS requires waypoint sentences with PFEC preceding the talker, eg $PFECGPWPL******.
I'm not certain but AFAIK, P indicates a proprietary sentence whilst FEC indicates Furuno, and clears the memory.
I assume this is what the utility programmes for the Furuno do to WPL sentences from non- Furuno sources.
