choice of pix is very subjective

I did send PBO about 50

most of them are still on my website

http://www.keepturningleft.co.uk/scuttlebutt/pbo-gallery-1/

so you can say if you would have used different ones

D

I most definitely would and I will try not to be subjective. There are five pictures only containing boat, water, sand and sky. On the website there is a photo of boat water sand sky and a pier end. That has to be better. There are also some pictures of boat water sand sky and some other boats. That would have to add more interest.,

Also more variety has to be better, The shot from the front of the boat (bow view 3) would have been great as something different, and gives us a chance to look up close at the boat and let us imagine we are on board with you. Something with a bit of colour may have helped.

I like 4013 but that is subjective.

I realise there maybe other criteria and that you had no control over which photos they used, and the editorial, but you asked for comments on the article. I enjoyed it a lot.

QUOTE "high speed upwind sailing is not really in the repertoir so images foaming wakes are few and far between"

I wasn't expecting any.

QUOTE"as for not much in the way of new information

well PBO ciculation is around 30,000

ktl subscriber numbers stick resolutely around an elite 500

no idea what the overlap of the ven diagrams are between the two

but as a PBO reader and KTL subscriber you are part of an uber-elite"

It would be nice to be uber-elite, But being a cheapskate impoverished sailor, like yourself, I am not a subscriber. I have to feed on the scraps from the table that you let fall. I am most grateful for them, thankyou. I realise my comment was personal to me.

QUOTE"repeating the images in the contents section is now pretty standard in newspapers and magazines and all over the TV"

I know, **** isn't it.

QUOTE"(I will confess here to a soft spot for Hirondelles and noow lust after a mark 3)"

I wouldn't let that go public, you will loose face. It might be a case of grass is greener. I went from a Leisure 17 to a small cat, it made me realise how secure/safe I felt on the Leisure, even though I didn't know it at the time. I don't think Hirondelles came with inboards. But the cat would be a great filming platform and much easier to live on. We plan to do a similar slow coastal exploration as yourself, on our cat.

Yes the £500 'project' looks like a challenge , wonder what the budget is for the re-fit ? guessing EBAY and local press will provide some sources for secondhand good gear , or are they going for a 'new ' equipment outfit ?

I subscribe, why dont other peeps on here?

Here in the sunshine land my latest PBO is the October edition. We get them about 2 months late, this one I've had about 2 weeks.
I get them from the newsagency for $9.95 whereas it's a lot more to subscribe here, I think it was at least twice the price.

I have also had drop keels

stones and mud are a great worry

(snip)

I have heard (probably on here sometime) that leaving the board just slightly down, so that it is pushed up a bit when you dry out, can help reduce the risk of clogging. The slight movement on each tide will help dislodge any mud & stones from the last drying out.

If it is fully wound up then sucessive tides simply force more mud & gravel into the slot & the top of this "cement" compounds the problem by drying out hard, allowing the soft mud to be compacted by further tides.

BTW, your wish list is quite impressive, but I suspect a little OTT. The risk of rigging failure on such a small mast with relatively stout stays must be very low. Running rigging will not fail without some warning signs like fraying (altho the blocks up the mast could!). An overhaul of your engine would almost certainly cost over £3k alone and still be an old engine. A dry suit? Could you actually get in & out of one inside the slug's cabin? Just idle daydreams I suspect (nowt wrong with that either!) You are not planning an ocean crossing, just a few day trips up a somewhat more exposed bit of coast line. In most conditions the E coast of the UK is a weather shore so, apart from possibly being blown over to Norway,(now there's an interesting coast to explore!) it has fewer hazards.

What you are doing is just right for your situation, fewer, longer periods aboard will help manage the fuel costs, you are getting well away from the "odd day/ weekend afloat" stage now & should be planning for 1 or 2 week trips of concentrated effort. Longer periods between the trips will allow for planning, editting, spotting suitable weather windows & perhaps earning a living! :D
