Just bought march edition of PBO, I am really surprised by the lack of adverts for used boats in the magazine. There are loads of boats for sale on the internet and wondered why.

I thought it was interesting, also, that one of the articles was about some guy who sold his boat on EBAY, a colvic boat.

We bought and sold boats in 2004, 2008 and 2009. On each occasion the overwhelming majority of useful information was online.

A few ads in PBO and in YM were followed up. All were out of date by the time we phoned. One particular boat had been sold about six months previously. I came to the concusion that a significant proportion of the magazine ads were less than genuine, being included to bolster the thin amount of real, paid-for adverts.

Why would I want to look at a 2-square-inch advert in the back of a magazine, with one tiny picture and a dozen words?

If I don't want to look at that, why would I think my buyers do?

Therefore, why take out such an advert?

Once upon a time, a bundle of dead trees that lots of sailing people regularly purchased was the only way to get information about your boat out there. Times have changed.
