He was quite a character, and a passionate advocate for and designer / builder of the Colin Archer type of gaff ketches.
I remember seeing three of his 40' gaff ketches in the Caribbean on various occasions - Moon and Venus often sailed together (I think that Paul lived on one of them), and then there was another called Pluto owned by LouLou Magras of St Barths
I met his parents in the summer of 1989 on their Colin Archer 'Escape' - they were still living on board her in Moodys marina at Swanwick on the Hamble River then, and they must have both been approaching 90 years of age then. I seem to remember hearing that Paul had been born on board Escape.....

He was one of the early contributors to PBO with an article on howto build a strip planked ocean cruiser with a cast concrete keel his own Venus.I kept the article so amongst my papers it would be instructionaltopostit. I went aboard one of his Venus class in Falmouth it had been built in Foam sandwich by a yard in Falmouth..A friend back in the mid eighties had a steel boat designed by him.
