Sorry, being really ignorant and no good at chemistry I need to ask, is this stuff likely to be any good for cleaning down the decks etc after a winter of neglect...?

Dos'nt sound like an eco friendly sort of thing suitable for a marine environment otherwise I might try mixing it with emulsion paint to see what sort of anti-foul it produces.
Probably good for snails up the garden path on the other hand ;)

Hi Horace been laying low? Did you like the music video thread? ;)

It is probably a little more Eco friendly than the anti foul we spread on the bottom of the boat and all the multitude of cleaners and acids we use for cleaning our boats - and probably less harmful than the washing up liquid we let run down the sink plug hole with very little thought. I wouldn't worry about it too much - tough old shell on this snail...

Not been lying low, still very active in the lounge where someone has to care about the less fortunate

What music video thread?I shall take a look out for it.
What anti-foul?
What multitude of cleaners & acids we use for cleaning our boats? I admit I occasionally use a small amount of washing up liquid to clean my plates etc but I'm sure that is minuscule all things considered.
I scrub my decks etc using seawater alone, have done for at least 15 years.Saintly is what I am :D
Seriously, the older I get the more I seem to care about the environment & wildlife even snails :)

Is it like boracol then?

In so much that Boracol contains benzalkonium chloride , yes

There are in fact several Boracol products the common two being Boracol 5RH and Boracol 10 RH. 5RH being the one readily available for non professional use, while 10RH should only be available to professional users. They both also contain disodium octaborate which is an insecticide to protect against wood boring insects, 10RH containing a higher concentration than 5RH. 5RH also contains some ethylene glycol to aid penetration into wood. 10RH is a solution in ethylene glycol as opposed to being an aqueous solution

Products such as Patio Magic are effective mold, mildew, algae ( and moss) killers suitable for all hard surfaces.

The Boracols are intended for use as wood preservatives, not only protecting against fungal attack but also against insect attack.

Benzalkonium chloride is very toxic to fish so take care if you have a fish pond and intend using products containing it for your patios , garden paths or decking
