Patagonia

A fair bit further South than shown in that video, but in the local Spring of 1963 my ship took a deck cargo of steel pipes to Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego. Bloody freezing, howling place. When it wasn't blowing old boots it was thick mist, couldn't wait for next stop and some Aussie sunshine. ☺️
If you watch their previous videos, you’ll see that they rounded the horn and cruised the various islands - during winter!!

Well worth an evening viewing them all. Spectacular footage, no drama, no bullshit. Just a “normal” couple just doing it on a normal everyday grp boat!

Obviously quite mad, surely everyone knows that you need a 55 foot 'expedition' boat to sail those waters!
Apart from the short days winter is the best time to sail in southern Chile, lots of settled conditions, far better scenery.
North of Golfo de Penas not so much, Puerto Montt is very wet, windy and dreary in winter.
This may be of interest to some 2020.2 Chilean Anchorages | PDF Host

In the book I mentioned in post #13, the author describes the harshness of life for the natives.

The tribes could not survive without the ruthless culling of useless mouths, ie old women; when they became too enfeebled to work.

So, old women were disposed of by holding them over a smoking fire until they choked to death.

Old men seemed to have been spared this grim fate.

Sepulveda - El mundo del fin del mundo / Patagonia Express
I read them many years ago cannot remember which one was about the funny Patagonia weekly football match among migrants from various countries, Welsh against Irish against Italians against Germans of course against Chileans and Argentinians.
