Partial rewire

I am partially rewiring the boat this winter (12v so my twin and earth supply is staying in the garage). Some of the bits are going to become inaccesible after the weekend (fuel tank going in), so I am going to run wiring in before finishing off later. As i am runnning out of time can anyone suggest the best none-boaty wiring source/type (nav lights, autohelm and fuel guage sender as minimum) that I can buy in any town?

I know what I'd buy if I had the time - what's the next best?

ideally tinned 2.5mm2, but if you can't get this then arctic cable. For light loads 1.5mm2 will probably suffice, and cheapest way to buy this is via a 50m extension cable from B&Q (normally finished in blue outer insulation). I would run a spare cable or two where it is inaccessible.

That will be 3 core .... you dont really want 3 core for your 12 volt installation .

Furneaux Riddall are probably the best place for tinned 2 core cable ( In 10m 30m or 100m reels) http://www.furneauxriddall.com/acatalog/2_Core_Tinned_Copper.html

They also have non-tinned ( 100m or 30m reels)

If OP is needing something close to home then a car accessories/spares shop is his best bet. That is assuming there is no electronics or electrical suppliers nearby.
Interesting local car parts shops here do 5 core cable for trailer lights in bulk. Not tinnned but faily robust. I guess the most important thing for the OP is not buy stiff house wiring type stuff but rather he needs multistrand wire. (20 or so strands) good luck olewill

Yes even Halfords probably. Maybe not the cheapest but most town centres or out of town retail parks have a branch. They are less likely to have twin flex though which is what the OP need for most of his 12 volt wiring.

The Diy stores such as B&Q used to sell all the popular sizes for diy by the metre but sadly not any more. Full reels or pre-packaged cut lengths only now.

go to any industrial electrical factors (CEC etc) and ask for tinned Butyl flex in what ever conductor size/ number you need.....from singles to multicore!
Then when you have more time compare the cost of the stuff the chandler will sell you to the cost of the above and then go back and get some more of the above!

Fit some conduit or pipe (with a pull wire inside) or just a pull wire in additon to the cable. I can guarantee you, that you will have forgotten something or want to change/add things later.

+1 if you fit good smooth bore conduit and a mouse now (available in 20mm bore from Screwfix along with fittings you can get the right quality tinned cable from Fernaux Riddall or other supplier and install next visit.
