Panteanius insurance renewal

Are you sure that you are getting value though.
A friend of mine was attacked a couple of weeks ago by Orcas off Gibraltar.
They chewed big chunks out of his rudders (metal/GRP construction)
I believe that Pants are suggesting that the old rudders are repaired.
This boat is brand new and IMHO, the rudders are a fundamental design.
I doubt if a repair would be as good as replacement rudders.
My friend's experience has put me permanently off Panteanius

This example proves that the cheapest quote isn't necessarily the best.

My policy won’t be the cheapest, and I am happy with that. After seeing some of the posts on here about other issues hitting people with large increases so I thought that I would give my experience. Sorry to hear about your friends boat being attacked by whales. That the insurer is cover whale attack is a good thing though isn’t it? The insurers will be taking advice from the surveyor so surely your pal’s issue should be with the surveyor who made the recommendation.
two sides to each story and all that.

I've just renewed a Sunseeker Shield policy (arranged by Coleman Marine with Zurich for Sunseeker owners). The premium increase was just under 3%, which is consistent with the average increase I've experienced over the last few years. Prior to renewal I obtained quotes from Pantaneus and a number of others and for equivalent cover there was very little difference in the net cost. There were a few areas where cover and terms provided by the alternatives were slightly better than the Zurich policy, but Coleman were able to adjust for most of these by adding endorsements at no extra cost.

The Pantaneus website, when requesting a quote, asks for the location of the boat. Under the 'UK' option it lists counties in England but none in whatsoever in Wales.

I wonder why they don't offer boat insurance in Wales.

We are up,for renewal and Panteanius are on my list to call today. Got a quote from Curtis yesterday, which was significantly cheaper than the renewal for our old Y policy from Topsail but when I got the quote via e-mail they had missed off the coastal and included inland only so I await an updated quote.

Interestingly the renewal from Topsail came out a few pounds cheaper than last year but when I checked had they had changed our cruising range from inland and coastal to inland with 30 days coastal during the year. A bit sneaky I thought and if I hadn’t spotted it might well have just renewed straight away.

We've been with Pantaenius for the last 5 years now - one year we did see a bit of a steep increase but otherwise am pretty happy. We made a claim after only being with them <18 months and they handled it very professionally and promptly. Every year I do a quick 'shop around' to price check and whilst Pantaenius is always a little higher the difference has never been enough to persuade me to go with someone else so far at least!
