i am troubled by the excessive reliance on satellites by one of our fellow crew. i am a great believer in the kiss principle and I recall a fellow forumite suggesting a tin can and a long piece of string which would seem to fulfill such requirements. Aha, i hear you say, how long must the string be? Well, i have acquired from an internet auction house a very long fishing line which i will offer to attach to the pontoon at st martin and let it unwind as we trundle along. should any mischief occur, we just wind ourselves back in? And, we could supply a code to the marina employees such as "3 tugs on the string we're OK, 4 tugs we've run out of beer, 5 tugs send help". Couldn't be simpler?

Or Stingo could fly out there and tie the fishing line around the mast (a bowline of course). Stingo can then carry the line back in his hand luggage and you can all meet up in a pub somewhere and haul the boat across. We've therefore solved Stingo's flight woes, the provisiong problems and erm well actually any foreseeable problems because you'll be in a pub talking about the days when you were crossing the Atlantic, as a bonus you can talk about it live too.

There is much merit in this string theory. If you tie it to Terminal 4 as you leave then you pull yourself through the doldrums towards the uk when returning with no or adverse winds.
