has anyone used an agent to help get thru Panama for their saily boat? Who? We're 50ft cat. How much does it cost? Ish? Not this year but mebbe next.

When we arrived at Shelter bay marina we were put in contact with Rudy Whittaker (just ask around the pontoons for Rudy's number), he was awesome in his helpfulness with all aspects of the clearance into Panama and the transit of the canal.

He also runs you around for shopping and other stuff at a far reduced rate than the taxi's.

Dont try to go to Colon on your own IT IS A DANGEROUS CITY for non nationals and locals alike.

I posted before about our Canal transits, try to find the old post it has Rudy's email and phone number and all the prices as of 18 months ago.

AFAIK the price for the cat is $1500 which includes a $890 damage/failure to finish desposit.

I had to pay cash as the Canal Authority were in dispute with the card companies so you have to get cash and go a specified bank to make the payments, again Rudy will help with all the details.

He can also hire to you the 200ft lines and extra tyre fenders you will need to make the transit.
If you intend to stay around Panama city he can also hook you up with friends of his on the Pacific side.
If you intend to stay for any length of time there is a free anchorage at Brias de Amordor on the city side of the causeway as you leave the Canal, a very cool place to chill for a day or two while you catch up on email and that sort of stuff, some really cheap good quality fishy tackle around the Amador area as well.

Say Hello to him from English Mark n Lee from Infinity

Hope that helps
Mark
